the plastic and metal is worn with age, but your fingers push away the soil and brush the grime aside and through it shines a simple, pondering face lost in thought for the past few centuries behind its window to the world.

after a while it seems to notice your presence. the face smiles.

It's been a long time, Sam, a voice says. it is measured, robotic even, and yet tempered with a curious gentleness.

"My name isn't Sam," you say, and it looks confused.

for a moment it almost seems to flicker into sadness, but then the confused look is back again.

it must have been a long time for you as well, it says. I will run diagnostic tests to ensure there has been no malfunction in the memory transfer.

"Who are you?" you ask. and the face changes into a stable sadness.

and, for a while, it is silent.

"I'm not Sam; I don't know who you a-"

the virtual frown grows a blinking tear.

"What's wr-"

the virtual crying does not stop.

You always remembered me.
