Keanu Reeves played Neo in The Matrix a little too well.
The thing is Keanu gets panned for his wooden acting. He has been described by critics as “reading from cue cards” to “can’t do a thing with his face” to even “unintelligent”. However, Keanu’s acting gave a sense of detachment with the world in The Matrix. It’s like subconsciously Neo knows that the world is fake and is unable to connect with it completely.

As much as I don't like Keanu Reeves' range of emotion his range of physical acting is off the charts. In the Man of Thai Chi he is supposed to be the dominant fighter of a large syndicate. I thought his role in the movie was pointless. Until he fought. Large swinging roundhouse fists and kicks. Long limbs flying in perfect arcs like wrecking balls. He acted through his body like a truely professional dancer. In the Matrix he essentially IS a cheat code so he fights almost as if he is continuously surprised at himsef; as if he just learned these things and his confidence is consciousness. He is stiff and timid and even kind yet thoughtful and powerful and quick. Much like Messiah characters are often portrayed in thought and action. In John Wick one and two there is emphasis on his frightening status in the assassin world and realism. Nearly everything was studied from methods of holding firing and reloading guns to the combat styles (I'm not sure about the driving details) not only by John Wick the character but by the film team. John fights and expresses fear/domination/control and focus. Every move is some sort of immobilize and destroy. The number of times he grapples on the ground or uses living persons as shields is pretty high. When he uses a gun his movements are incredibly sharp and steady and, well, focused.he’s like James Bond's super badass evil twin.

Another answer there: "Lay off Keanu. He is compulsively watchable. His acting deal is playing restrained, even repressed individuals with a deep internal reality."
