Forum Posts: 328 Comments: 0 Reviews: 0 | Wasn't Keanu offered the role of Dr. Manhattan (the glowing blue character)? I remember some fans going crazy, saying Keanu *SHOULD* have taken that role instead of the TDTESS role, because the Watchmen was going to be a HUGE movie, blah, blah, blah. It's currently at 64% at Rotten Tomatoes. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/watchmen/ Okay, boo, for comparisons sake I looked at TDTESS's rating and it's 20% http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/day_the_earth_stood_still/ Well, having watched The Watchmen, I can only say if Keanu DID take that part, he'd be in the movie going full frontal the majority of the time (and some backside). Which, I'm sure would appease a certain segment of the fan base (some thought it was a distraction, especially if you saw it on IMAX), but I can just imagine the grief Keanu would get. I mean, Billy Crudup who played Dr. Manhattan did a good job in the role, just the nakedness, for some, seemed to take a lot of people out of the story (read: males uncomfortable with seeing other men's genitalia or uncomfortable with their own sexuality or just immature) I don't know, in MY opinion, TDTESS is such a better film to have in one's resume. Even with all the bad reviews it got. The Watchmen is doing well at the box office, especially in the IMAX format (and nothing really new came out this week, except RAce To Witch Mountain and Miss March- a kids movie and a movie appealing to males between the ages of 14-25), but I don't think it will be the HUGE HUGE Blockbuster they thought it would be. Plus, it was long. Like 2 hours and 45 minutes long. And violent. VERY violent. Like I had to turn away a few times violent. Plus, there were some gratuitous sex scenes. Not that I'm a prude, but it bordered on soft porn. I really only liked some of the visuals of the film and a few of the ideas, but then I probably wasn't the demographic they were going for, even though I read the graphic novel by Alan Moore. Just my two cents. Amyone else watch it? edit: As I'm re-reading this post, there's an banner ad below advertising 20% off of the Watchmen graphic novels. What a coincidence.

Yeah, I read "it" was all CGI too. It's not stopping some "males" from complaining about it though. On the one hand a CGI naked Keanu probably would've driven MORE women into the theaters and on the other, Keanu would've been slammed BIG time for it. (I can just imagine the lame critics coming up with, what they think, would be clever 'reviews.') I don't know, all in all, I'm glad Keanu didn't take the role. I think he said once that he didn't want to do gratuitous pee pee showing in film and how it was really difficult to do in MOPI.

Forum Posts: 4842 Comments: 381 Reviews: 13 | haven't watched the movie yet - can't be bothered to get my ass to the movie theater unless it's a K movie... or something else I really really really want to see... but I probably would go to see it in the next future... after all, read the graphic novel and found it very interesting. don't know what to say, though... personally, I liked "Day"'s premise, what it tried to say... didn't entirely manage , but there are quite a few scenes I like... and whatever most of the reviews said, for me K was a totally convincing Klaatu. he probably could have done a great Dr.Manhattan, too. he's got the right kind of detachment for it. but I just don't want to imagine the reviews. honestly. for various reasons. anyway, what's done is done. he did 'Day' and we all have to live with it and there's more than box office to define a movie...

I think it's a you either love it or hate it movie. Me too. They changed some things around and obviously couldn't put EVERYTHING in the film. That would be a 15 hour movie. I agree. Good premise, not so great execution. I thought Keanu did a great job as Klaatu. I was trying to envision him as Dr. Manhattan and I think he could've done the role too. It'd be too much for some critics though, their heads would probably explode. Actually, I think that would of been too much for me, a giant, blue naked Keanu. I don't think I would've been the only one. I wonder if in the future time will look more favorably on the remake? Or am I just dreaming again? I totally agree. Some of my favorite films of all times, weren't BLOCKBUSTERS. There just seems to be some kind of asinine critic rule, where the more $$$ a movie makes the better it is? That hasn't been my experience, as to what I like and what moves me.

ADMIN Forum Posts: 3076 Comments: 405 Reviews: 1 | Don't see them complaining about female nudity in films... Double standards, I say. From an article: I'm still excited by the prospect of seeing Watchmen, Zack Snyder's film adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel. I met Snyder a bit ago, and asked him how he'd approached the character of Dr Manhattan: a bald, blue-skinned omnipotent space-cadet with trouble relating to human beings. "We did talk to Keanu," he said. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/art...ints/article.do I can't even be bothered even if it's a K movie. Only saw Street Kings because my family had two free movie tickets that had to be used up, and that was the only thing remotely interesting in the cinema at the time; saw Constantine, A Scanner Darkly The Lake House on DVD; don't think I'll be watching The Private Lives of Pippa Lee in the cinema either. So far the only Keanu films I've seen on the big screen = Matrix Revolutions (IMAX) and TDTESS.

Forum Posts: 328 Comments: 0 Reviews: 0 | I know. No wonder Europeans think Americans are such prudes. From an article:
Thanks for the link Anakin, though I couldn't find the exact article you were referencing. I remember some Keanu "fan" was going on and on about how Keanu should've played Dr. Manhattan and how The Watchmen was going to be a HUGE Blockbuster blah blah blah. Didn't really turn out that way. I'll take TDTESS just for the interrogation scene alone.

Oh yeah. That was good too. And when he hears the classical music and asks what it is and says it's beautiful. Sigh.

Thanks! I've never heard of preg head before. Brownies sound good though. Your dad sounds cool. I love random film quotes used in conversation. I have a few films that I randomly quote from. O Brother Where Art Thou is one ("Do not seek the treasure," "He's bonafide" etc...) or Keanu movies of course. Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

He's been doing that all my life; in some cases I only later found out that they came from movies - Back to the Future's "Hello? Anybody home? *knocks person on head*"; Speed's "What do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO?" and possibly others. I used to think they were his original sayings or something, and then I saw the films...

Forum Posts: 4842 Comments: 381 Reviews: 13 | must admit the trailer was impressive. the first version, with the interrogation scene shot in close-ups. it totally built the atmosphere of the movie... does anyone have a link to that trailer ? not the extended version released later... I couldn't find one...

Forum Posts: 4842 Comments: 381 Reviews: 13 | thanks yeah, I guess I meant the 1:52 trailer... the first one released ... although watched now, after seeing other trailer versions and the movie (several times) it doesn't have the same impact as it had at the first viewing... *shrugs* that's why I usually don't watch trailers...

Forum Posts: 4842 Comments: 381 Reviews: 13 | finally managed to watch "Watchmen" . ( pun unintended ) it's impressive, to say the least. and Snyder has a real talent for translating graphic novels onto the screen. ... I wonder how he'd do a movie based on reality, though ... and I'm glad K stuck with TDTESS instead
