When he comes out of his hole on February 2 and sees his shadow, that means there will be 6 more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, then spring is right around the corner.

The burden of predicting the end of winter lies on Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania. They're in the northeast part of the country where it's REALLY cold in the winter.

Thought I would say hi instead of just lurking. I have poked my head in from time to time and it seems there is always something interesting going on.

I am from Canada. As to the rodent thing - (Groundhog Day) Around here it is kinda a big deal. Wiarton Willie is closest to me about 1 hr away and he saw his shadow so 6 more weeks of Winter. It is too cold here right now though for snow. Tonight it is minus 25 celcius with the wind chill.
