This is worth reading:

Oh, and be sure to watch the video clip of the fantastic "I want room service!!" speech. Marvellous. The anger, the frustration, the despair - it's just a brilliant scene. Me loves it. :-)

That was an interesting article.

Anakin: I enjoyed johnny mnemonic for what it was (a fun action scifi movie) but can't help think of the squandered potential.

blueclover - me too, especially after reading a few of Gibson's and Keanu's interview lines about that. But hey... so it goes , as Vonnegut would say ;)

pity about Gibson's work, though. it deserved better.

Just saw that scene. ahahahaha. It's not... quite how I imagined it. Yeah, Johnny has issues. Lots and lots of issues.

the beauty of it is that this scene was not included in Gibson's original screenplay.

probably it was written later, while the shooting developed.
maybe that's part of what Gibson meant when he said Keanu helped him 'see' Johnny...

anyway. it's one of those gold scenes ;)
and " I want room service" almost entered the pop culture references list. ;)

Yeah, it was written later. Gibson talks about it: http://www.whoaisnotme.net/articles/2003_0509_unk.htm

It's Johnny's infantile self, pure and simple, and the plummetting VW-carcass full of Molatov cocktails is like a wake-up call from a universe rapidly losing its patience with him.

... that's sort of how I saw it, even before reading this...
hmm...

Johnny Mnemonic is one of those severely effed-up characters that I love. It's similar to Constantine. In a way, both protagonists are left on their own. Both only have a couple of friends or rather acquaintances and both are helped by a female working partner, who seems like the only person he can really trust.

The room service scene is legendary. ^^ Although it's nothing more than a great reference when talking about the film. I liked the mid-90s "sci-fi" technology. It was definitely fun to watch.
