Yeah, but I'm not sure I understand how they need "showrunners" when they've got Keanu as executive producer. I confess that I don't know what "showrunners" are or what they do. How does that differ from "producers"? What's their authority? Their responsibility?

I could've typed but i wasn't exactly clear either so,

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Showrunner :-). Still little fuzzy on the details. Like a venn diagram, lot of overlapping.

Thanks, Neaura. They sound like "suits" - I'm not at all sure that Keanu needs or even would want supervision if he's the executive producer. I'm a little nervous about this.

I think he's being smart, seeking expertise in an area he has none. He's never done TV at this level before. Whatever increases the odds of this project's success sounds like a good idea to me.

@MmeRenard: anytime! I think i agree with Jack here. It's a new environment for him. It was already a smart move to have seen a tv series in this rather than a movie and this is another one. Gotta wait and watch anyway!

Yeah to both of you, that occurred to me, too. It's outside his immediate area of expertise, so it's wise to seek counsel. Woe betide the creature, however, who attempts to tread upon his creative impulse. It WILL be fascinating to watch this process -I'm very hopeful for a great result! There are lots of great people involved already, and the source material - if you haven't read it yet, you really should - is outstanding. It's a big risk for Keanu in terms of career, and I certainly hope he'll keep doing films!!! but that's one of the things I love about his work.

Hey! Did you see in the new trailer that John Wick has killed three men with a pencil? Does that sound [exactly] like something John Rain would / could do? Coincidence? I think not. LOVE!

[url]http://www.indiewire.com/article/how-to-get-hired-for-keanu-reevess-tv-show-and-what-keanu-smells-like-20141023[url]

If someone could fix that, it would be great. Thanks in advance. I don't know why it doesn't work for me.

Anyway, I guess for some reason I expected better from Indiewire - maybe it's this "writer" (Liz Shannon Miller) "How does Keanu smell?"
What the FUCK?
(and yes, he smells really good, if I recall correctly from 1997, but that may not be the point here?)

And this little gem "Do you think the show will end up somewhere you can drop the occasional F-bomb, or all the F-bombs?"

I've got a pretty extensive vocabulary, and at least once a chapter in Barry Eisler's books, I come acrosss a brand-new word for me. He's an elegant, highly articulate writer. Besides, Deadwood covered the "we can say c***s****r every other word and be clever" AND IT WAS. Over. Done. No longer cool or clever. Tiresome. Limited. Unskillful in the extreme.
If you haven't read any of the Rain books, you really should, because they're wonderful.

I really, really hope that Keanu will be in a position to say "no, we're not going to use an F-bomb every two minutes."

@ Mme Renard - I'd rather they drop an F-bomb every now and then and spare us at least half of the sex scenes, cuz damn, that was Eisler's inner 13 years old self typing

just personal opinion, of course.

Thank you, Joke!

I don't mind the odd F-bomb, to be sure, but neither do I mind sex scenes. Nope. Not at all.

Update: Sundance Collider interview, Keanu Reeves mentions Cinemax picked up Rain.
Interview is also in the K/K thread.

Rain on Cinemax! Hooray. Adult enough to give depth. Last place it belonged was US network TV. Premium cable gives more free-reign.

That's a great interview via collider [they usually are] but his nervousness was palpable.

It's going to be on Cinemax. Expect both the f-bombs and the Bond-girl thing Rain has. Isn't there a different girl in every book, Luca?
I can't remember and it's been a while since we discussed it.

KR is a swearer...expect the f-bombs to stay. I f*cking do. ;)

No, not in every book...
There are only three girls... and one of them isn't a Bond girl at all.

Yeah, one of the things I've found really interesting in Keanu's work of more than 20 years is how frequently he picks projects based on how many F-bombs he'll get to drop and how many Bond girls with whom he can have a liason. Oh wait...

There's a whole lot more to the Rain books than profanity and chicks. I recommend reading them. Barry Eisler is a bright and interesting author.

I do plan on reading them. Remember text lacks tone, I did not imply that was all there was to the books, you projected it onto me. Damn, do we have to go and duel? Medieval style? En-garde :D

Apparently just in Japan location scouting for John Rain with Chad and Dave, maybe Barry Eisler too?
