...possibly relevant to the mystery of "Daughter of God / Exposed"...

Well-written and interesting in that "how-in-God's-name-does-a-good-film-ever-get-made?" way.

indeed.

thanks for sharing the link !

... it's also interesting to note that this is the team behind the initial 47 Ronin (before the supernatural elements were added and Comcast/Langley took over the editing...) So this time, it could go right....
Anyway, at least the movie will be promoted ! ;)

Notice the line about directors getting final say on editing? Which is why GLM is only cutting his own nose to spite his own face.

Happy New Year!

Hmm. That wouldn't explain the existence of director's cuts, though - which assumes that the theatrical release is not the director's preferred version. There are also many cases of directors getting fired because of creative clashes with the studio, so there might be pressure to cooperate with the studio's wishes.

I think this article is very depressing and totally disillusioning. Especially the last is an asset - unmasked truth. But the idea of watching a NEW good movie can be buried now, apparently.

On the bright side, even if that is true... there's such a vast storehouse of old good movies just waiting to be discovered.

I spent a couple of days at the Chateau Marmont about a decade ago. Listening to conversations of showbiz middle managers, or maybe wannabes, was entirely ridiculous. All about image, nothing about creativity at all. The entertainment industry is wholly obsessed with celebrity, wealth and power - and yet good films ARE still made and will continue to be made. Truly fine actors are becoming much more involved in development, and I think that's a great sign.

That said, I wouldn't last five minutes in Hollywood before I told some self-important idiot where he could put his ideas. I'm amazed and impressed that anyone has the intestinal fortitude to do it, and especially by Keanu, to whom that sort of nonsense seems particularly alien. It takes a level of commitment, passion and nerve that's truly admirable.

And the very difficulty of making good work probably is not an entirely bad thing - it requires fierce discipline, without which no creative work will ever amount to much.
