Death of a Fan

INT – MOVIE STORE – NIGHT

A singular light bulb hangs in a corner, illuminating a shelf of DVDs. 
Near to it, a SHADOWY FIGURE stands.

We hear the sounds of someone picking the lock and accidentally 
jabbing their finger. 

            VOICE
           Bugger.

The lock finally gets picked.  The door slowly opens, and a FAN 
walks in cautiously. 

He does not see the SHADOWY FIGURE. He smiles.

             FAN
       First objective complete.

With barely suppressed eagerness, he goes towards the illuminated 
DVD shelf. We see that it is stocked full of copies of the 
original 1951 film 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'.

The FAN's eyes take on an almost manic glint. His arms reach 
out towards one of the DVDs, when suddenly-

The head of the SHADOWY FIGURE moves! It gives off a bright red 
glow – it's GORT! With his DISINTEGRATOR RAY!

The FAN finally notices that GORT has his DISINTEGRATOR RAY 
aimed at him.

            FAN
     No... no, please, don't...

            GORT
             ?

            FAN
     Klaatu barada nikto!

This has no effect whatsoever on GORT. Unknown to the FAN, 
the hearing systems on GORT have since broken down with age.

            FAN
     Klaatu barada- AAARRRGGGHHH!

GORT activates his DISINTEGRATOR RAY. The FAN is VAPORISED.

The DVD falls from his vaporised hands and hits the floor. 
GORT bends down.  He picks it up, returns it to the shelf, 
and then turns off his DISINTEGRATOR RAY and becomes once 
more a SHADOWY FIGURE, waiting patiently for his next victim.
