Steering Trouble
Written by Anakin McFly
Luke Skywalker could not believe it. He was the sole remainder of Rogue Squadron left with the job of destroying the Death Star. Everyone else had either died or retreated, and Han Solo had muttered something about a tea break. Behind him, Darth Vader was getting nearer and nearer...
Luke was almost there. He could see the target right before him... just a little to the right, and the Death Star would be history. Slowly, he reached for the controls to turn his X-Wing in that direction, when he realized the awful truth – he couldn't. He was able to fly up, down and left, but no matter what he did, the spaceship refused to turn right. Darth Vader was closing in, and through the Force Luke heard the sound of his breathing.
There was only one thing left to do now. Luke swung the X-Wing as far as possible to the left, trying to make it turn all the way around. He was too late. A second to impact, he saw Darth Vader's helmeted head right in front of him, and a moment later Luke's spacecraft swerved into that of the bad guy, whose helmet got knocked off by the impact Gasping for breath, Darth Vader's world went black. He lost control of his ship, which went careening off past Luke's and straight into the target.
The Death Star exploding behind him, Luke Skywalker flew off to rejoin his friends, reminding himself to send the X-Wing for maintenance.
