Forum Posts: 165 Comments: 30 Reviews: 0 | my thoughts on Hardball well, it's an American baseball movies for the American market, I don't understand baseball rules so in some scenes I had difficulties to graps what's going on. That's the main reason why it was so way down the list to ever watch it. The plot - as a feel good movie it was quite predictable. Our man, Keanu Reeves - I didn't see any wooden acting here, on the contrary almost exaggeration (the scene watching the basketball game through the window for instance). Overall, I liked it. I think I rewatch it when I am in the mood "I need comfort" | ||

Forum Posts: 246 Comments: 14 Reviews: 0 | I could never think of Hardball as a comforting or feel-good movie - which is fine because I wouldn't like it nearly as much if it were. I appreciate the honest depiction of some tough issues because that's life. The kids really do inspire me, not because of all the sweetness and light with everyone getting along, but because they paid a such a heavy price for their victory - just as Conor does for loving them. I'm him in that scenario. I would've assumed, as he did, that the kids would quit because it's what I would do, because the mere comtemplation of anything else is too painful to get my head around. One of the most powerful and relatable moments to me is when he gets choked up saying he'll see them for practice the next day. Someone who's always taken the easy way out has his first glimpse of what true character means, and as usual he walks away from it - but this time, not before letting the boys know he's with them come hell or high water. He's choosing the harder path of continuing to feel and hurt and love when he'd rather not. Crazy difficult, but a far deeper life lesson than your typical feel-good movie.
So yeah, lots of meaning and real-life application for me. But most times I still only watch up to a certain point, it being the opposite of feel-good. As to the sports stuff, the only detail that interests me is how KR looks while doing it, like when he's hitting balls for catching practice. Always, always good. ;)
Sigh. | ||
