Natasha Braier, Director of Photography, talked about the work on the shooting plan and mostly about the colours. She also mentioned about the symbolic meanings of some scenes and the ideas and metaphors behind them. This film was very colourful and picturesque. Indeed the colours were quite essential for building a very bright and flashing pictures - from baroque richness of forms and colours to pop-disco or comics graphic. The used colours were often very clear and 'sharp' (maybe a bit like in a tropical jungle, just opposite to our misty, foggy weather and landscapes we've got now). Even those dark pictures were bright thanks to the high contrast between the very dark background and the white or bright objects. Except for those colours we could noticed other elements like all those flashing lines and 'glittering confetti' which created additional visual effects. The other point was the meaning of some scenes. For example the beginning of the film with Jesse posing as a dead person (what at the end turned out to be true) or a change she was going through starting from an innocence and a sort of 'Alice in Wonderland'. Those symbolism and metaphors were woven in many scenes but that was also mentioned and discussed in many articles.

Forum Posts: 4842 Comments: 381 Reviews: 13 | this is a film all about luxuriating in aesthetics. It’s the sort of film that should be screened on a 100m tall screen in a vast, darkened warehouse.
oh, definitely :) |
