Christopher Kenneally’s probing doc about the movie industry’s changeover from film to digital uses an impressive roster of talking heads—Vittorio Storaro, George Lucas, Davids Lynch and Fincher—and up-to-the-minute examples to examine the epochal technical shift cinema is undergoing. Zen-surfer tour guide Keanu Reeves winds us through pro and con arguments for each format, but true to its title, the clear and concise Side by Side affords equal airtime to both sides of the celluloid-versus-pixels divide.

Well, any movie that features Keanu Reeves and Martin Scorsese is a solid sell for me, but one that talks about the future of cinema is an absolute bible. In Side by Side filmmaker Christopher Kenneally lets Reeves do the talking and the actor (also the film's producer) interviews many of the most innovative game-changers in the world of cinema -- including James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, and Andy and Lana Wachowski -- to examine how the digital age has transformed the movies.

Plus, I just have see Keanu on the big screen and more importantly hear him (in his own voice no less) in surround sound! They must make this happen for me! :)

Arya, I'm so jealous you got to Tribeca to see SbS. Tell us more, please. Did you like the film? Were KR's various outfits and facial hair states distracting, as one review said? Or was it fun seeing all his incarnations?

I'm really interested in this film from a variety of angles, not just KR, so I can't wait to see it, period, but I agree I would like to see it on the big screen.

... if by 'distributed' they mean video on demand... not sure if this works outside of the US. guess we'll find out in August :|
